my mum hates crusts. Mum cuts off the crust of her 10 * 10cm piece of toast every day. She cuts 1 cm from each edge and throws these pieces away. what percentage of the toast is thrown away?

Answer:

36% of the toast

Explanation:

If you have a piece of toast that is 10 by 10 cm long, then it's area is 100 cm².

If you cut 1 cm off from each edge, then each edge loses 2 cm (for each end). This makes the side lengths 8 cm long, and that makes the area 64 cm².

In total, we lost
100-64=36 cm² of toast (quite a bit).

This means we lost 36% of the toast, since
(36)/(100) = 36%.

Please let me know of any mistakes, I'm only 80% sure on this one.

Hope this helped!
