(p-q)(x)=x^2-5x+4

Explanation:

So we have the two functions:


p(x)=x^2-1\text{ and } q(x)=5x-5

And we want to find (p-q)(x).

This is the same as;


(p-q)(x)=p(x)-q(x)

Substitute:


=(x^2-1)-(5x-5)

Distribute the right:


=x^2-1-5x+5

Combine like terms:


=x^2-5x+4
