Evaporation occurs when the sun warms surface water. Water evaporates and rises into the atmosphere where it collects in clouds and cools (condensation). Transpiration refers to water that is released through the stomata on the leaves as plants. Transpired water follows the same pathway as evaporated water at that point. Water that condenses in clouds reacts with a catalyst of some sort (dust, smoke, etc.) and falls to the Earth as precipitation (rain, snow, sleet, hail). Collection refers to water that falls on the ground and then either seeps into the ground to underwater aquifers (percolation), or flows to bodies of water such as lakes or oceans (runoff).
