Explanation:

Let w = width

l = w+2

A = l*w

168 = (w+2) * w

Distribute

168 = w^2 +2w

Subtract 168

0 = w^2 +2w -168

Factor

0 = (w-12)(w+14)

Using the zero product property

w-12 =0 w+14 =0

w=12 w=-14

Since we cannot have a negative width

w=12

l = w+2 = 12+2 = 14
