x = -2.4

Explanation:

12x -4 = 17x +8

-12x -12x

That's to get all the x-values on one side so we can solve for x.

-4 = 5x +8

-8 -8

-12 = 5x

But now we need to find what 1 x value is equal to so we divide,

-12/5 and 5x/5 to get -2.4 = x
