If i get on the scale with my dog and my baby and weigh 100lbs more than the 2 of them combined, the dog weighs 60% less than the baby, how much does the baby weigh?

Answer:

The weight of the baby is 25 lbs.

The weight of the dog is 10 lbs

Total weight = 170 lbs

Your weight = 135 lbs

The total weight is 170 lbs which is shown in the picture.

Suppose the weight of the baby is x lbs . The weight of the dog is 60 % less than x

so x - 0.6 x lbs = 0.4 x is the weight of the dog

And suppose your weight is y lbs.

x+ 0.4x + y= 170

1.4x+ y= 170

y = 170-1.4x ------1

The sum of your weight , the baby and dog is 100 lbs more than the two combined.

y- 100 = 1.4x

x +0.4x + 100= y

1.4x+100= y----2

Putting 1 in 2

1.4x+100=170-1.4x

1.4x+ 1.4x = 170- 100

2.8x= 70

x= 25lbs

The weight of the baby is 25 lbs.

The weight of the dog is 4.4x= 0.4 (25)= 10 lbs

Total weight = 170 lbs

Your weight = total weight less baby's weight less dog's weight

= 170- 25- 10= 135 lbs
