If you have 125 pencils and you have
y amount of containers, then you want to get an equal number of pencils in each container.

What operation do we know of that finds an equal distribution across a certain number of groups? Division! That can help us equally split a number into how many parts we need.

Division can be represented in two ways: with a division sign
/ or as a fraction
(x)/(y).

You'll find the that the division sign will be used a lot less during Algebra and you'll mainly stick to fractions.

If we are dividing 125 into
y groups, then our fraction is
(125)/(y).
