Explanation:

2x + 5y = 1 and -3x + 4y = -13

From equation 1, 2x = 1 - 5y, x = 0.5 - 2.5y.

Substitute into equation 2:

-3(0.5 - 2.5y) + 4y = -13

-1.5 + 7.5y + 4y = -13

11.5y = -11.5

y = -1.

We know that x = 0.5 - 2.5y = 0.5 - 2.5(-1) = 3

Hence x = 3, y = -1.
