What is the solution to 4x-8=12 please explain.

Explanation:

4x-8=12

To find the solution we have to find the value of x.

to find the value of x, we have to add 8 to BOTH sides.

4x-8=12 (Why add 8? because we have to do the opposite of the sign!)

+8 +8

4x=20

Now to find X we have to ISOLATE IT.

So we take out 4, How? We do the opposite to both sides.

4/4 Cancels out

20/4 = 5

So now we know X=5

Insert in the main problem to check.

4(5)-8=12

20-8=12

12=12
