The steps needed to be taken to stop the small kitchen fire would be to always have a fire extinguisher close by and try and spray the fire with the fire extinguisher. Once the fire has calmed down more you need to turn off the heat and close the hood of the grill. Shut the gas tank off if the fire is in the hose itself. If you are unable to reach the knob, use the fire extinguisher and call 911. The fire may quickly move to the tank which would be extremely hazardous. If the fire is in the tank and does not die down or stop and it gets bigger then you should evacuate everyone and call 911.
