x = -8

Explanation:

Multiply both side of the equation by -1

-x(-1) = 8(-1)

On the x side, the negatives cancel each other out, making x positive.

On the 8 side, the negative makes the 8 into -8.

x = -8

(essentially, switch the negative/positive signs)
