The length of a rectangle is 2 yards less than 3 times the width.The perimeter is 68 yards. Find the width

Answer:

length = (3*width) -2

length + 2 = 3*width

width = (length +2) / 3

2*length + 2*width = 68

OR: 2*length = 68 -2*width

If length = (3*width) -2 then

2*length = 6 * width -4

therefore,

6 width -4 = 68 -2 width

8 width = 72

width = 9

Since 2 length + 2 width = 68

then 2 length = 68 -2 width

2 length = 68 -18

length = 25
