A wildlife habitat houses 41 animals. There are three more reptiles than mammals in the habitat. There are seven fewer amphibians than mammals in the habitat. How many amphibians are there in the habitat?

Answer: 8

Explanation:

Let mammals be represented by y

There are three more reptiles than mammals in the habitat. Therefore, Reptiles = y + 3

There are seven fewer amphibians than mammals in the habitat. Therefore, amphibian = y - 7

y + y + 3 + y - 7 = 41

3y - 4 = 41

3y = 41 + 4

3y = 45

y = 45/3

y = 15

Since amphibian = y - 7

= 15 - 7

= 8

There are 8 amphibians
