What is the difference between keratinized and non-keratinized stratified squamous?

Answer and Explanation:

The squamous epithelium has different layers of cells. The keratinized squamous epithelium is an outer layer, located externally(such as the skin) and is composed of dead cells which contain keratin but no nuclei. Non keratinized stratified squamous epithelium are characterized by cells that are alive and do have have nuclei but lack keratin and are internal such as found in the esophagus
