What is subsistence farming? What does it mean to say work was "labor intensive"?

Answer: Subsistence farming is a form of farming where the majority of all crops and livestock raised are used to benefit only the farmer and their family, therefore leaving a little amount for them to sell or trade.

Answer: an industry or type of work that is labor-intensive needs a lot of workers to produce something rather than being automated. "Work was labor-intensive" means work needed a greater amount of workers or amount of work in order to produce or create.
