Step 1: Change mixed numbers into improper fractions.

14 1/5 = 71/5

8 2/3 = 26/3

Step 2: Change the improper fractions to have the same denominator.

71/5 = 213/15

26/3 = 130/15

Step 3: Subtract

213/15 - 130/15 = 83/15

Step 4: Simplify

83/15 = 5 8/15
