A health club charges an initiation fee of $50. Members then pay $45 per month. You have $400 to spend on a health club membership. For how many months can you afford to be a member? Let n represent the number of months you can pay for a membership.

Answer:

8 months

Explanation:

In this problem we must first of all write the inequality that describes the problem.

Given that

1. you have a limit of $400

2. there is an initial fee of $50

3. monthly payment is $45

let the number of months be n

therefore

50+45n\leq 400\\\\45n\leq 400-50\\\\45n\leq350

Divide both sides by 45 we have

n\leq (350)/(45) \\\\n=(70)/(9) \\\\n= 7.77\\\\

approximately you are going to be member for 8 months
