9 is a composite number. a prime number is a number that you can only get by multiplying itself and one. for example, 17 is a prime number because you can only multiply 17 and 1 to get 17. for 9, you can do 3 times 3 to equal 9, therefore labeling it as composite, which means it has more than one multiple to get the answer of 9.

Answer:

Composite

Explanation:

A whole number that can be divided exactly by numbers other than 1 or itself. Example: 9 can be divided exactly by 3 (as well as 1 and 9), so 9 is a composite number
