Answer:

y = -5/12

Explanation:

2/3 + y = 1/4

y = 1/4 - 2/3

Answer:

see below

Explanation:

2/3 +y =1/4

Subtract 2/3 from each side

2/3-2/3 +y =1/4-2/3

y = 1/4 -2/3

Get a common denominator

y = 1/4 (3/3) - 2/3 *4/4

= 3/12 - 8/12

=-5/12

or if

2/(y+3) = 1/4

Using cross products

y+3 = 2*4

y+3 = 8

y =8-3

y = 5
