let's say we have candidates A, B, and C

we can choose:

A and B

A and C

B and C

any others, such as "C and A" would be the same as one already chosen (in this case, "A and C")

how i figured this out:
1. go through each possibility with A in the mix

A and B

A and C

2. same thing but for B, noting that A and B is already there so "B and A" doesn't work

B and C

3. same thing for C, noting that "C and A" and "C and B" are already taken

i am thus left with my answers
