The British tried to occupy the territories that were supposed to be for the French. Native American Indian tribes such as the Algonquin supported the French because they had good trade relationships with them. The issue was that the British colonists tried to expand their territories and settled in former Indian lands, just to exploit the many raw materials and natural resources to make a profit.

The French were not really interested in settling in one place or establish colonies. The French were only interested in making good profits from the fur trade.
