Hello!

Answer: Even so, when I was invited to attend an important author event on the East Coast, a friend took me in hand.

Explanation: a comma goes after the word “so” because it is introducing the phrase. as well, a comma goes after the word “coast” because it is introducing a new clause

hope this helps!
