Answer:

I haven't read the book myself but things you should look out for:

1. Immaturity and Carelessness vs. Maturity and Responsibility

Learning proper actions and the consequences of their actions which could have a toll on their personality and how they act, making them realize they were making bad decisions.

2. Learning through hardship or being told

3. Experiencing turbulence in personal life such as drama

4. On and off romances and even struggles with mental health

I did look it up on Sparknotes and it seems to have a lot of number one.

Step-by-step explanation:

" He also begins to suffer from serious depression, which he later learns is extremely common among gang members. In school, he’s moody and always getting into fights. At the annual Fiesta Day parade, Luis meets a beautiful young woman named Viviana, who belongs to the rival Sangra gang. Luis begins using drugs, including meth and heroin. One night, he inhales clear plastic and becomes so high that his heart seems to stop. His friend Wilo prevents him from inhaling any more of the clear plastic—an action which, Luis later realizes, probably saved his life."
