The length of a rectangle is 3 times its width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 56 inches. What are the dimensions of the rectangle?

length=3x

x+x+3x+3x=56

8x=56

x=7

width = x = 7

Explanation:

Length (L)= 3x width (W)

L = 3W

Perimeter (P) = 56

Perimeter = 2L + 2W

56 = 2(3W) + 2W

56 = 6W + 2W

56 = 8W

W = 56/8

W = 7

L = 3W

L = 3(7)

L = 21
