Explanation:

think of it as this: i is an imaginary number, so a negative in a square root will be negative. so if you take away the squareroot, it leave you with -1. a square root is ^2 so i^2 is practically the same as a square root.

Answer:

i is an imaginary number because i =
√(-1) and you can never take a square root of a negative number. Because i is equal to
√(-1) when you square it it just removes the square root sign and gives you -1
