  • √(x² +49) = x + 5
  • (√(x² +49) )²= (x + 5)² ⇒ square of both sides
  • x² + 49 = x² + 10x + 25 ⇒ simplifying, x² get cancelled
  • 10x = 49 -25
  • 10x = 24
  • x= 24/10
  • x= 2.4

Answer is 2.4
