Explanation:

The perimeter of a shape is the sum of all its sides.

Not all of the sides are labelled in the diagram. We are missing two sides which I labelled "x" and "y" in the photo below.

We assume all sides are either parallel or perpendicular to each other since they look mostly "straight".

Find the length of the side x:

This side is like the 14cm side, except it's shorter by 3cm at the top and 3cm at the bottom.

x = 14cm - 3cm - 3cm

x = 8cm

Find the length of the side y:

This side is the same length as the 7cm side already labelled at the top.

y = 7cm

Find the perimeter:

Add all of the sides together.

P = 14cm + 7cm + 7cm + 3cm + 3cm + 5cm + 5cm + 8cm

If you want, you can simplify to this equation since some numbers are repeated.

P = [ 2(7 + 3 + 5) + 14 + 8 ] cm

Either way, you get the same answer.

P = 52 cm
