Expand the products on both sides:

a(y+c)=b(y-c) \implies ay+ac=by-bc

Move all terms containing y to one side:

ay+ac=by-bc \implies ay-by=-ac-bc

Factor out y :

ay-by=-ac-bc \implies y(a-b)=-ac-bc

Solve for y :

y(a-b)=-ac-bc \implies y=(-ac-bc)/(a-b)=-(c(a+b))/(a-b)=(c(a+b))/(b-a)
