x = -1

Explanation:

2(x - 1) + 3 = x - 3(x + 1)

Distribute

2x -2+3 = x -3x-3

Combine like terms

2x +1 = -2x-3

Add 2x to each side

2x+1 +2x = -2x-3+2x

4x+1 = -3

Subtract 1 from each side

4x+1-1 = -3-1

4x= -4

Divide by 4

4x/4 = -4/4

x = -1
