what is problematic about the word “discovery” when used in the context of encountering native lands?

Because it was the Natives land. They'd been living on it for a long time, it was their home. It would be like if someone came into your house and said "oh what a nice place I've discovered! I think I'll call it home". You would be confused and irritated because it's your home. How could they "discover" it when it had already been claimed and discovered?
