Spinal cord functions in carrying the sensory impulses to the brain and motor impulses from the brain that helps in the voluntary and involuntary movement of the body.

Paralysis affects the bodily functions asthe nerves in the brain unable to communicate with parts of the body.

Damage to nervous tissues in spinal cord leads to loss of sensory impulse to muscles to produce movement. Due to damaged nervous tissues body get inable to differentiate between voluntary and involuntary movement and it lead to paralysis.
