Answer:

Correct Answer:

Even though he won these victories he was criticized for spending too much time in the Western theater of the war

Step-by-step explanation:

During the night of April 30-May 1, 1863 in the American Civil War, General Grant crossed his army from Louisiana into Mississippi, and citizens in Vicksburg were on the verge of encountering Union troops.

Grant who was leading the Union troops knew the importance of control of the Mississipi River hence the need to conqer Vicksburg. General Pemberton who leads the Confederacy Army on the otherhand, was trying to defend the city from the Union soldiers.

Grant’s army tried twice to overwhelm Pemberton’s army, and, having failed, settled in for a siege that ultimately lasted 47 days. These brough great economic crises on the ordinary people living in the city and criticisim on Grant for spending to much time despite winning the war on Mississippi later.
