The difference is that statement lies on the way people are treated. If someone is treated with respect as an individual rather than an animal, then, they are dutiful to their duties as as sons.

For example, a situation, a young man has a father suffering from dementia, if he understand the health situation of the father while fulfilling is duty as a son shows that he is treating the father with respect.

Otherwise, he is only interested in feeding the man without making effort to see things from the father's health perspective. It does not make him dutiful son.
