Band kids :) when I call commands I can feel my diaphragm pushing the air out but it still hurts my throat?

I’m trying out for Drum Major and the command portion is very important.

I’ve already tried the Ha exercise; it doesn’t work for me?

Also, my commands sound like yells and not “full”

Answer:

You might want to drink some warm tea with honey in it to help with the throat. To get a fuller command try to do this exercise: Stand up against a wall and push your diaphragm. You should feel almost like your shoulders are pulling down. Now try to say a command, loud, full, and firmly.

Step-by-step explanation:

The tea should sooth your throat. Keep in mind this will not work instantly, if this does not work also try not to talk to much in colder temperatures. This is might seem a bit weird but, I had went to a work shop conducted by Bobby McFerrin and he recommended this to preserve your voice. The diaphragm exercise you can also do with other voice exercises, this should make sure you are using your diaphragm to its full potential. I hope this helps! Good Luck!
