desired cases / possible cases

so, if we pick a single student randomly, how many possible options do we have ?

we have 2+5+6+9 = 22 students (as the 4 categories in the table are mutually exclusive).

therefore, our possible cases to pick a student are 22.

now, how many of these 22 students represent our desired cases ?

male, who does not have an A : 9

so, the probability to pick a student who is male and does not have an A is

9/22 = 0.409090909...
