Answer:

14 cm

Explanation:

If the rectangle is 15 cm wide then the total width is 30.

So we can subtract 30 from 70,

=40

If the length is increased by 2 then there is 4 more cm added to the total length.

We can do, 40-4

=38

If 38 is the total length we do 38 ÷ 2

=14

Thus,

The original length was 14 cm.

Answer:

18cm

Explanation:

We can set up an equation to solve this

Let's start by naming the original length before the increase x.

New length is x+2.

Formula for perimeter of a rectangle is 2L+2W=P

Plug known values in

2(x+2)+2(15)=70

Simplify

2x+4+30=70

2x+34=70

2x=36

x=18

The original length is 18cm.
