Answer:

If there are x nickels then the equation is

.05x+.10(55-x)=3.9

The number of nickels is 32

And the number of dimes is 23

Explanation:

This is because there are x amount of nickels and the value of a nickel is .05

Plus the dime which is .10 cents hence .10x.

But there are 55 of them so out of the dimes we subtract 55 out of it to have the nickels and the total value is 3.9
