Answer: 486 sq. feet.

Explanation:

Given, w represents the width of the room, such that

. The polynomial (w+2) (2w-5) or
2w^2- w -10gives the new area of any room in the house.

If current width of the kitchen is 16 feet, the put w= 16 in the above expression, we get

Area of the new kitchen =
(16+2) (2(16)-5) sq. feet

=(18)(27)=486\text{ sq. feet}

Hence, the area of the new kitchen = 486 sq. feet.
