5/x+2 = 3

..

5 = ( x + 2) 3

5 = 3x + 6

5 + (-6) = (3x + 6 + (-6)

-1 = (3x+6) - 6

-1 = 3x

switcharoo

3x/3 = -1/3

x = -1/3

Answer:

X =
- (1)/(3)

Explanation:

(5)/(x + 2) = 3

Apply cross product property:

5 * 1 = 3(x + 2)

Distribute 3 through the parentheses:

5 = 3x + 6

Move variable to L.H.S and change its sign

- 3x + 5 = 6

Move constant to RHS and change its sign

- 3x = 6 - 5

Calculate

- 3x = 1

Divide both sides of the equation by -3

( - 3x)/( - 3) = (1)/( - 3)

Calculate

x = - (1)/(3)

Hope this helps...

Best regards!
