Eddie and Christopher went to a carnival where the games took tickets, Eddie played 9 games

of ring toss and 5 games of dropping the cans, using a total of 29 tickets. At the same time,
Christopher played 3 games of ring toss and 1 game of dropping the cans, using 7 tickets.
Part A: Write a system of equation to model this situation.
Let x =
Let y =
9x + 5y = 29
3x + 1y = 7
Part B:

Answer:

x = 1

y = 4

Explanation:

9x + 5y = 29 eqn 1

3x + y = 7 eqn 2

Using the method of substitution,

"substituting y"

multiplying through eqn 2 by -5

-15x - 5y = -35 eqn 2

9x + 5y =29 eqn 1

adding eqn 1 and eqn 2

-6x = -6

x = 1

3x + y = 7

3 (1) + y = 7

3 + y = 7

y = 7 - 3

y = 4
