In the light-dependent reactions, energy is from the sun is transferred to an electron in photosystem I. A chain of reactions occur that have O2 as a waste product, and we end up with ATP and NADPH+. Those two molecules contain the solar energy that has been converted into chemical energy. Now comes the light-independent reactions where the plants creates sugar molecules from CO2 using the energy stored in ATP and NADPH+.
