To find y, we have that two or more parallel lines cut by two transversal proportionately cut the transversal lines;

Therefore we have from the measured segment of the two lines;


(3)/(5) = (y)/(6)

Which gives;

3 × 6 = 5 × y

y = 3 × 6/5 = 18/5

y = 18/5 =
3(3)/(5) , which is equal to 3.6.
