This will give us

-x- y = - 10 ------- equation 3

x+2y = 4 ----------- equation 2

We will now add equations 3 and 2 together so that x will cancel itself out.

this will give us

y = -10 +4 = -6

hence, we have the value of y as -6.

To get the value of x, we can put this value of y into any of the equations above. (I will use equation 1)

x - 6 = 10

from this, we have that x = 4
