x^2+x+k

means that 2 is a zero of


x^2+x+k=0 \ so\\2^2+2+k=0\\<=> 4+2+k=0\\<=> 6+k =0\\<=> k = -6

and we can verify as


(x^2+x-6)=(x-2)(x+3)

so it is all good
