The Reverend Jesse Jackson meant that being free in life is more predominate than just living, what are you live for if you're not free? The second line from this quote have a very good point indeed. The line meant that if you're not respected, honored, or worthy you should not be in your comfort zone, you should be seeking the honorship, the worthiness, and the respect you deserve. You need to step out of your comfort zone to be something in life, and you need to have freedom in order to live for an good cause. Freedom does not come by itself you need to seek it in order to make a change.

Answer: I believe that Jesse wants to express that there are things in life that are more important than just living. That he would rather pass away for a good cause than live in horror. If you do not fight for freedom you cannot expect to get it, and you cannot give the next generations a decent life.
