To answer this question we must first calculate the area of GHJK:

  • A= GH*HJ
  • A= (LM/2)* (MN/2)
  • A= LM*MN/4
  • LM/MN is the area of LMNO
  • So the area of LMNO is 4 times the area of GHJK
  • A is the area of LMNO and S the area of GHJK
  • S= A/4
  • A-S= A-A/4 = 3A/4
  • so the area that is not shaded is 3/4
