The sum of two numbers is 21. the second number is six times the first number work out the two numbers

Answer:

18 and 3

Solution,

X + y = 21 --> equation (i)

X = 6y ( given)

According to Question,

6y + y = 21

Collect like terms

7y = 21

divide both sides of the equation by 7

7y/7 = 21/7

calculate

y = 3

Again,

Replacing value,

X = 6y

= 6 * 3

= 18

Therefore, the two numbers are 3 and 18
