{x}^(4) - 16 \\ = ({x}^(2))^(2) - ({2}^(2))^(2) \\ = ( {x}^(2) - {2}^(2) )( {x}^(2) + {2}^(2) ) \\ = (x - 2)(x + 2)( {x}^(2) + 4)

Because
(x^2 - 4) = (x^2-2^2) can further be factorised as (x - 2) (x + 2).
