Answer:

The equation is 2x + 3y =$7.05

How you solve it is down below

Explanation:

So, 2 bottle of water and 3 bags of pretzels. (yumm)

The total cost is $7.05

You don't know how much each bottle or bag cost (yet) so replace the costs with variables. Now we need to write in equation form.

2x + 3y =$7.05

Then they give you the cost of each bag of pretzels ($1.35)

Substitute the 1.35 for y

2x + 3(1.35) = 7.05

2x + 4.05 = 7.05

-4.05 -4.05

2x = 3

2x/2 =3/2

x = 1.50

Now substitute 1.50 for x ( just to check)

2(1.50) + 3(1.35) = 7.05

3+ 4.05 = 7.05

7.05 =7.05

If the cost of pretzels is 1.35 and the total is 7.05 the. All you need to do is subtract 7.05 from 1.35 which equals $5.7 the 2 bottles equals $5.7
