James has a magic hat full of slips of paper with numbers on them. He gives the hat to his friend Anna who pulls 4 numbers out of the hat: $3$, $-4$, $-2$ and $0$. James then pulls 3 numbers out of the hat: $2$, $4$, and $1$. What is the sum of all of the numbers that James and Anna pulled out of the magic hat?

Answer:

4

Explanation:

Sum of numbers that Anna pulled= 3 +(-4) + (-2) + 0

= 3 + (-6)

= (-3)

Sum of numbers that James pulled = 2 + 4 + 1

= 7

Sum of both = (-3) + 7

= 4

Answer:

4

Explanation:

Sum of numbers that Anna pulled = 3 +(-4) + (-2) + 0

= 3 + (-6)

= (-3)

Hint: If two numbers have same sign add & the result will have the same sign Eg: (-4) + (-2) = -6

If two numbers have different sign, subtract and the result will have the sign of bigger number. Here sign 6 is ' - ', so the result is (-3)

Sum of numbers that James pulled = 2 + 4 + 1

= 7

Sum of all numbers = (-3) + 7

= 4
